Internship Diaries #11: Originality, the fairweather friend

 ·  β˜• 2 min read  ·  ✍️ Brian M. Watson

Originality? Hardly!

No one is original, after all.

We’re down to the last few blogposts! So here’s how they will work!

TWO entries ago

Blog 9 – Minor Revisions β€” Proposals for revisions which would not affect more than one than one entry.

One entry ago

Blog 10 – Hierarchal Revisions β€” Proposals for NTs or BTs that that do not currently exist for terms that do currently exist.

YOU ARE HERE

Blog 11 β€”Original Terminologyβ€” Terms that do not currently exist in the controlled vocabulary that are being proposed for inclusion.

SOON

Blog 12 – Larger Revisions Proposals for revisions which would affect more than one than one term within the vocabulary. In my final reports, these are accompanied by an Appendix which lists all of the affected terms.

New Terms Proposed

Total terms proposed: 9

As I write in my report:

This section is for terms that do not currently exist in the controlled vocabulary that are being proposed for inclusion. Each new term is in bold and it is followed by a Scope Note (if thought necessary), along with Related Terms (RTs) and Broader Terms (BTs) that currently exist within the catalog. Each proposal is followed by a Justification.

Here’s are some examples!

Asexuality
BT Sex behavior
NOTE Asexuality is the lack of sexual attraction to others, or low or absent interest in or desire for sexual activity. It may be considered a sexual orientation or the lack thereof.
JUSTIFICATION: To accommodate material on Asexuality.

Submission
RT Domination
BT BDSM
NOTE: Alteration of a person’s behavior towards a dominant sexual partner and following of the dominant person’s command; may or may not include use of strong physical coercion.
JUSTIFICATION: Domination exists within the SNT but submission does not. The BT here would also be an update.
